1.
Based on the triangle above, write the sine, cosine, and tangent functions for angle A, and angle B.
2.
If angle A is 35.5°, and the length of side b is 20.0 cm, determine the length of a and c, and the angle B.
3.
If side a is 12.75 cm and side b is 22.35 cm, determine the length of side c, and angles A and B.
4.
What are the formulas for the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines? You may have to consult your text. What
type of triangles might these be helpful in solving?
Using trigonometry solve the following problems. For each one include: A drawing that is properly labeled with
known information, the equation you will use, and the work for the solution.
4.
The hypotenuse of a right triangle is 8.5 cm long, and one of the acute angles is 32.0 degrees. Find the lengths of
the other two sides.
5.
One acute angle of a right triangle is 55.0 degrees, and the length of the opposite side is 12.0 cm. Find the length of
the other two sides.
6.
One acute angle of a right triangle is 38.0 degrees, and the length of the adjacent side is 11.5 cm. Find the length of
the other two sides.
7.
If the hypotenuse of a right triangle is 20.0 meters long and one side is 6.0 meters long, (a) what are the values of
the two acute angles and (b) what is the length of the other side?
8.
If one side of a right triangle is 18.0 meters long, and the other side is 12.0 meters long, what are the values for (a)
the two acute angles and (b) the hypotenuse?
9.
The hypotenuse of a right triangle is 22.0 cm, and the sine of one of the acute angles is 0.345. What are the lengths
of the two sides?
10. The hypotenuse of a right triangle is 33.0 cm, and the tangent of one of the acute angles is 1.45. What are the
lengths of the two sides?
11. Using a calculator, find the sin, cos, and tan for each of the following values of θ:
a) 26.3
b) 67.0
c) 20.0
d) 38.5
e) 87.5
12. Find the number of degrees, to the nearest tenth, of the following angles:
a) sin θ = 0.839
b) cos θ = 0.788
c) sin θ = 0.375
d) tan θ = 0.649
13. A baseball is hit from home plate to the upper deck of seats behind center field. The ball is hit at an angle of 14.0°
above horizontal and the upper deck where it lands is 21.0 m above the position where the ball was struck. How
far in a straight line has the ball traveled from where it was hit to the seats.
a.
Draw a sketch and label all components of the problem. Use variables to keep things simple.
b.
Assign numbers to known variables and question marks to unknowns.
c.
Write down formulas that you will need and solve them for the unknown variable.
d. Place numerical data into the equation from step c and solve it. Place a box around your answer.
