Mountains, near the great lakes, and West of the Atlantic
Ocean.

Climate- The Midwest has cold winters, moderate rainfall, and
warm summers.
Landforms- The Midwest has flat plains, rolling hills, and
Great Lakes which were formed by glaciers.
Natural resources- The Midwest has fertile soil, fresh water,
iron ore, and salt.
Place (human characteristics):
 The largest city is Chicago, IL
 The most populated State is Illinois
 Other human features are the Mackinaw Bridge, the Soo
Locks, and the Detroit Windsor Tunnel
Northeast

The northeast is located in the corner of the United States
alongside the Atlantic Ocean mostly south of Canada.
Place (physical):
Climate- The Northeast has cold winters, warm summers, and
lots of snow.
Landforms- The Northeast has a rugged coastline, forests,
and mountains.
Natural resources- The Northeast has Ocean fishing, timber,
mining, and certain types of farming such as dairy.

 The largest city is New York City
 The most populated State is New York
 They have museums about the New England Colonies
West

The West is located east of the Pacific Ocean, south of
Canada, and north of Mexico

Climate- The West has a moderate climate along the coast.
It’s snowy in the mountains and dry in the deserts.
Landforms- The West has the Rocky Mountains (largest
mountains), deserts, and the Grand Canyon.
Natural resources- The West minerals, timber, and
farming/ranching.
Place (human characteristics):
 The largest city is Los Angeles, CA
 The most populated State California
South (east)

The South is located west of the Atlantic Ocean in the
Southeast corner of the U.S. It is north of the Gulf of
Mexico.

Climate- The South has hot summers, warm winters, rarely
receives snow, and lots of rain.
Landforms- The South has the Appalachian Mountains, low
swampy lands (national parks), and coastal plains with beaches
on the Gulf of Mexico.
Natural resources- The South has coal, fertile soil, and oil.

 The largest city is Houston, TX
 The most populated State is Texas
