Dear colleague,
It is a pleasure for me to provide you with details about my university, but first I would write a glance
at my city Hama.
Syria - Hama
The city of Hama is located around halfway between Damascus and Aleppo. It is considered one of
the oldest cities in the ancient eastern world, It has a long history and is well known for its ancient
huge water wheels, the noria, several of which can be found along the Orontes river in the city
center and its castle which belongs to 5000 BC. The city has over 2 million inhabitants after the crisis.
The city is well- known for simplicity atmosphere and the kindness of its habitants. It is famous for
special kind of sweets and diaries products

Al- Wattaniya Private University – WPU
The Foundation, current status and departments
There are about 763 students in the university
The debut:
In 2005 a determination for the establishment of Al-Wattaniya company for science and
development by some prominent businessmen and academics from Hama city in Syria, aimed to
contribute for the development of the region economically and scientifically.
The company plans were:
1. The foundation of al-Wattaniya Private University in Hama and supporting it financially
(shares) and administratively.
2. The investment in the foundation and management of the educational establishments of all
kinds from schools to institutions.
3. The support of educational process through the initiation and exploitation of these
educational establishments.
Accordingly, Al-Wattaniya Private University (WPU) was licensed by the decree no.264, dated on
17/6/2007.
The University Vision:
Seeking excellence for the educational levels in terms of:
 Curricula and specialties that conform to the region needs.
 Academic staff as they are one the main bases of the educational process; their excellence
means university excellence for teaching and research.
The University Main aims:
4. The contribution in realizing the aims of higher education in Syria ( Promoting the level of
human resources in accordance with society development)
5. Activating the scientific research in the university, directed for serving the society and its
development.
6. Education and training graduates with ability to enter the labor market with great
confidence.
The University Administrative structure:
7. The council of trustees: mainly plans and oversees the general policies of the university
within scope of the higher education.
8. The University council: is the executive body of the university in terms of planning and
organization of the education and research programs and training within the university.
9. University administrative directorates of: ( student affairs, finance , human resources ,
computing and communication systems , public affairs , information and advertisements
, activities)

10. The Faculty of Architecture and Urban planning: comprises the following departments:
 Architecture
 Internal Architecture
 Urban Planning.
The faculty awards the specialty degrees:
BSc- Eng in Architecture
BSc- Eng in internal architecture
BSc- Eng in Architecture- urban planning
Degrees are awarded after completing 5 years study with passing 169 credit hours

Computer Engineering: information systems and computer networks
Communication Engineering: communication systems and communication networks.
System Engineering
Electronic and Electrical Engineering.
The faculty awards the specialty degrees:

BSc- Eng in Communication Engineering: communication systems and communication

BSc- Eng in electrical & electronic eng.
Degrees are awarded after completing 5 years study with passing 167 credit hours
12. Faculty of Business Administration and Finance: compromises the following departments:

 Accounting
The faculty awards the specialty degrees:
BSc in Business administration
BSc in banking and finance
BSc in accounting
Degrees are awarded after completing 5 years study with passing 134 credit hours
During the Crisis:
The university is situated along the way of Hama- Homs road outside Hama city. However, after the
crisis the location had been moved into the city and its' students have rapidly increased during the
last two years because it is preferable.
