Fight the Flu with the Facts
Influenza (flu) is highly contagious viral infection of the nose, throat and lungs that is one
of the most severe illnesses of the winter season. Complications of flu can include
bacterial pneumonia, ear infections, sinus infections, dehydration, and worsening of
chronic medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure, asthma, or diabetes.
If you have a healthy interest in protecting yourself- get a flu shot. The Centers for
Disease Control (CDC) recommends a yearly flu vaccination, especially for people ages
fifty and older. Getting the shot before flu season is in full force gives the body a chance
to build up immunity to, or protection from, the virus. The CDC also recommends
women who are pregnant, and individuals with chronic disease such as diabetes, asthma,
and heart disease, receive flu shots.
Health Net wants to help you stay healthy during the flu season, so if you are a covered
Health Net Member you may obtain a flu shot in one of a variety of settings.
Health Net will cover the cost of flu shots when you get them at your doctor’s office. The
doctor may charge your applicable copayment, coinsurance or deductible.
Health Net also covers the cost of flu shots at many local supermarket pharmacy
locations with no out- of- pocket costs for Health Net members. Check with the store
pharmacies for their flu shots schedules. Participating pharmacies are:
