NEW ENGLAND
Resources: Natural resources included timber, fish, deep harbors.
Human Resources included skilled craftsmen, shopkeepers,
shipbuilders.
Geography and Climate: Appalachian Mountains, Boston Harbor,
hilly terrain, rocky soil, jagged coastline. Moderate summers and cold
winters.
Specialization: Fishing, shipbuilding, industry, naval supplies.
Examples of Interdependence: Depended on Southern colonies
for raw materials such as cotton and on the Middle Colonies for grain
and livestock.
Social/Political Villiage and church as center of life. Religious
reformers and separatists.

Essential Understanding: Describe life in the colonies with emphasis on how people
interacted with their environment.
