GUJARAT : LOCATION, BOUNDARY AND PHYSIOGRAPHY
You have learnt about your district in standard V; so we will study further here. Let us now do
one activity. By seeing the following maps; Give the information, which is asked.
7.1 Gujarat : Political
7.2 India : Political
The State of Gujarat is situated in the west side of India and on the bank of Arabian Sea. The
State of Gujarat is in between 20.06° North Latitudes and 24.42° North Latitudes; similarly it is in
between 68.10° East Longitudes and 74.28° East Longitudes.
Boundaries :
Gujarat got two types of boundaries : (i) Land boundary and (ii) Sea boundary.
(i) Land boundary : (See the above map and give answers)

in the North-West.
(ii) Sea-boundary :
There is a Arabian Sea in the west side of the Gujarat State. The sea-boundary is 1,600 km.
length; which is the largest sea boundary in the India. None of the state got this type of natural
largest sea boundary. There are Bay of Kachcha and Bay of Khambhat in the Arabian Sea.

The State of Gujarat stands seventh no. in India, according to the area. Now know, which
number is possess according to the census of 2011 A.D.

Expansion :
The length of North-South is 590 km and East-West length is 500 km of Gujarat State. The
geographical area of Gujarat is 1,96, 024 sq km; which is only 6% of the total area of India. The
land-area of Gujarat is divided in four parts : North Gujarat, South Gujarat; Madhya Gujarat and
Saurashtra-Kuchcha.

Physiography means the various land forms of the land. The Physiography of the Gujarat State
is varried. Accroding to the
Physiograph of Gujarat, we can
divided in five parts : (1) Plains
(2) Mountains (3) Plateaus (4)
Desert and (5) Costal-plains.
(1) Plains :
The major part of Gujarat is
of plains. These plains became
fertile because of river’s alluvial.
The plains of South Gujarat and
Middle Gujarat are more fertile.
The population is also more
here, because of agriculture and
the best comforts of residence.
The most of the area of North
Gujarat is also having plains.
7.3 Gujarat - Physiography
(2) Hilly and mountains area :
The hills and mountains area is divided in three regions : (1) Tal-Gujarat hills area, (ii) Saurashtra
hills area and (iii) Katchcha hills area. Write the following information in your note-book, by using
the Physiography map of Gujarat State. (If necessary, take the help of Teacher of Social Science.)

(3) Pleatues :
Pleatues means, the land-form which is high of sea-level and the upper part is flat like plains
is called pleatues. The middle part of Kuchcha and the middle part of Saurashtra are pleatues. The
pleatue of Saurashtra is high in middle while slopy and low towards the sea-shore.
(4) Desert area :
The land is saulty of the big and small deserts area of Kuchcha. These are is not sandy, yet it
is desert. You will have a view of salty-plain region to some distance; and it is a speciality of this
desert. On the full-moon night, it’s beauty is like white bedcover ! It is a lovely and beautiful scene
!
(5) Sea shore-land :
Gujarat State has a 1,600 km long sea-shore; which other states do not have. And this sea-shore
is very useful for shipping and international trade. The international trade was by the ports of
Khambhat, Ghogha, Bharuch and Surat, in ancient time and by Kandala at present.
