Spanish and the Aztecs Unit Project Choose one of the projects below. Project 1- Timeline This project requires you to do a detailed timeline of the events leading to the fall of the Aztec Empire. Your timeline should begin in the year 1519 when Hernan Cortes lands in Mexico and should list each important point that led to the Spanish defeating the Aztecs in 1521. You must include a minimum of 10 points on your timeline and arrange them in chronological order. Please use the years 1519, 1520, and 1521 as a template for your timeline (Refer to the front inside cover of your textbook). Each point on your timeline MUST be accompanied by a sentence describing why this point is important enough to be included on the timeline. In addition to listing points on your timeline you must include a minimum of three visuals representing what you feel are the three most important events that led to the fall of the Aztec Empire. These visuals must be colored and placed on your timeline. Marking Rubric /10-10 points on the timeline arranged chronologically. /10-Descriptive sentence detailing the importance of the point. /15-3 Visuals worth 5 marks each. /15-Overall impression. Work is neat and is arranged in a fashion that is pleasing to look at. There are no spelling or grammatical errors. Project 2- Script and skit In this project you will work in a group to write an original script that tells the story of the fall of the Aztecs. Your group will then act out the script for an audience. You must have three scenes in your script: 1. 1519 Cortes lands in Mexico-write about Cortes and his men landing in Mexico. Detail some of the people who they came into contact with and some of the events which may have occurred. 2. 1520 Emperor Moctezuma is killed, smallpox outbreak among the Aztecs, Spanish driven out of Tenochtitlan. 3. 1521 Spanish defeat the Aztecs. Remember that the script you write must be both entertaining and educational. The goal of this project is to inform your audience about the conflict between the Spanish and the Aztecs. Think about including the characters of Cortes, Moctezuma, and Malinche in your script. Feel free to bring costumes and props from home. Be sure that all content in your script is school appropriate. Groups of four will be chosen by me and will be final once selected. A peer evaluation will be completed by each member of your group at the end of the project and will help determine part of your mark.
