Chapter 1 What Pandas Look Like
Pandas have interesting markings on their body. Panda’s fur is black and white. Many
scientists believed for a long time that pandas were related because of their dark markings
around their eyes. They have sharp claws and sharp teeth. A male panda can weigh 250
pounds. A female can weigh 220 pounds.
Chapter 2 Where Pandas Live
Pandas only live in one place in the world. Pandas live in China. Pandas live in Asia. Pandas
also live in the mountains. Pandas live 5,000 to 10,000 feet above sea level. Pandas build their
homes in bamboo forests.
Chapter 3 What Pandas Eat
Pandas eat bamboo, stems, plants, and leaves. Pandas eat up to 85 pounds (39 kilograms) of
bamboo each day. They eat 16 hours a day. They have a thumb to hold the bamboo when it
eats.
Chapter 4 Protecting Themselves
Dholes (wild dogs) tigers, can attack and kill pandas Pandas protect themselves by using their
strong jaws and teeth to bite their predators. They could use their claws to protect themselves
and their babies. Babies climb trees to stay safe.
Chapter 5 Life cycle
Female pandas give birth each year. Baby pandas are called cubs One or two pandas are born
at a time. Baby pandas weigh about 5 ounces (140)grams at birth.
