As a link between these vast protected areas, it serves as a travel corridor for large animals like the timber wolf and black bear. Many uncommon plants and animals are found here, including birds like the Meadowlark and Bobolink as well as beautiful butterflies, badgers, and other wildlife. Location: Dane and Iowa counties; Blue Mounds, Brigham, Moscow, Perry and Ridgeway townships Quincy Bluff, a two-mile long sandstone mesa, rises more than 200 feet above the bed of extinct glacial Lake Wisconsin. Encompassing a narrow run of shorefront along Lake Michigan, Chiwaukee Prairie is a site of remarkable diversity in the midst of residential and commercial development. The area is home to a number of plant and animal species that are uncommon to Wisconsin and more common to western deserts, such as prickly pear cacti, blue racer snakes, six-lined racerunners, and lark sparrows.
