TERM 6 - Pluto - ALGEBRA
EXAMPLES
Children should be able to answer rapidly
5g + 2 = 32
5g = 32 - 2
Use simple formulae
Express missing number problems algebraically
5g = 30
g = 30 ÷ 5
g=6
Generate and describe linear number sequences
Find pairs of numbers that satisfy an equation
with two unknowns
Enumerate possibilities of combinations of two
variables
2, 4, 6, 8… What is the next term in this sequence? What is the 10th
term? And the 100th? How did you work it out? You didn’t have time
to count on in 2s to 200! We can double 10 to find the 10th term or
double 100 to find the 100th term. So how can we find the nth term?
nth term is 2n: double the number of the term.
a + b = 10
2c + d = 8
e + f = 14
e x f = 40
What is the value of ‘a’ and ‘b’?
