Rocks and minerals
-A geologist is person who studies rocks and minerals to better understand how the Earth is
formed.
- The three types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic.

A metamorphic rock is formed by the Earth’s crust pressure and heat.

An igneous rock is formed when a volcano’s lava cools down and hardens.

A sedimentary rocks is formed when wind and rain hits the mountain or large rocks.
Sediment then falls in lakes or oceans. The sediments gets stuck together to form a
sedimentary rock.
- The difference between a rocks and minerals: Rocks are formed by two or more minerals.
Minerals are formed of only substance (mineral).
- The different types of luster of rocks: greasy, glassy, mat, brilliant, metallic, waxy.
Archeology
- An archeologist is a person tries to find artefacts in order to find out more about people
who lived a long time ago.
- Describe an artefact: color, material and its use.
- Primary and secondary sources of information

Primary sources: photos, videos, personal journals, maps or drawings made by the
explorer, autobiography and stories.

Secondary sources : biography, Company’s made maps, books, documentary and articles
- Historian is a person who uses primary sources (like artifacts found by archeologist) in order
to make books, documents, articles and other things.
- Four periods in history

Prehistory: Prehistory starts with the first human beings. This is the longest period of
time and finishes the year 3000 BC.

Antiquity: During this period, people invited writing. It finishes around the year 500
BC.

The Middle Ages: During this period, there were kings and queens who ruled their
kingdoms. There were also knights. It finishes around the year 1500 AD.

Modern times: During this period, humans invented electricity. From this invention
came different technologies. It’s this period.
