Chemistry Lesson Plans
Mrs.Scarpulla
Monday August 24
Teacher
- distribute dimensional analysis worksheet
-explain and model steps for solving word problem using dimensional analysis
Students
-summarize steps to solving dimensional analysis into their notes
-complete example problems shown by teacher on board, place into notes for reference
-using white boards individually complete practice problems
HOMEWORK
-complete dimensional analysis word problem worksheet #1-15
Vocabulary- extensive vs. intensive properties, mass, volume, substance, Physical states of matter (solid, liquid, gas, vapor, plasma?) Physical
changes- reversible or irreversible
-Demonstrate reversible physical change, irreversible physical change, and chemical change using paper
-Place Vocabulary words for 2.2 & 2.3 on board, describe and demonstrate the terms, have students read & describe terms to the class
Vocabulary- element, compound, mixture, heterogeneous mixture, homogenous mixture, solution, phase, filtration, distillation, chemical change
Tuesday August 25
Teacher
-return Test 1

distillation
-Demonstrate reversible physical change, irreversible physical change, and chemical change using paper
-Place Vocabulary words for 2.2 & 2.3 on board, describe and demonstrate the terms, have students read & describe terms to the class
Student
-pick up laboratory hand out
-write vocabulary terms into notes with examples as teacher demonstrates and explains
-identify types of changes, mixtures, and matter from examples set up around the room
HOMEWORK:
Read & complete pre-lab questions
Wednesday August 26
Teacher
-present a lab practical quiz covering terms from yesterday
-return dimensional analysis homework, review commonly missed problems
- introduce terms: Mole and Avogadro’s Number
-using dimensional analysis and periodic table, demonstrate how to convert from g, to mol, to atoms of a specific element, give classwork to
practice the method, students may complete for homework if not able to finish during classtime
Students-complete voc. term lab practical
- summarize definition of a Mole and Avogadro’s Number into notes, place example problems using dimensional analysis into notes
-complete classwork converting between units of g, to mol, to atoms of a specific element using the periodic table- ask for clarification when
needed
Thursday August 27
Teacher
- set-up and facilitate as students complete physical and chemical change lab with a partnerStudent
-complete physical and chemical change lab with a partner
Friday August 28
Teacher
st
- distribute 1 9 weeks project instructions and rubric
-provide examples, dos and do nots, and allow time for students to research a project idea
Student
st
-receive the 1 9 weeks project instructions and rubric
-understand instructions, participate in discussion, ask questions for clarification
-research project ideas/options via laptops provided by school
