EQUATIONS OF LINES
Slope-intercept form; y=mx+b
Point-slope form; y 2 –y 1 =m(x 2 –x 1 )
Standard Form: Ax+By=C
Review of Point-Slope Form: Given a slope and any point (x1,y1) è
Given a slope = 2; and a point (-3, 6)
Write an equation of a line in point-slope form.
y2–y1=m(x2–x1)
y–yk=m(x–xk)
Now convert it to slope-intercept form: (y=mx+b)
Exercises: Please do on a separate sheet of paper.
1. Write an equation in Point-Slope form, and then convert it to Slope-intercept
form given a slope = -4, and the line passes thru (6,-5).
2. Write an equation in Point-Slope form, and then convert it to Slope-intercept
form: given the line passes thru the points (-2,-3) and (4,1).
STANDARD FORM:
Ax+By=C
è
2x+3y=12
Rules:
1) Variables x and y must be together on left side of = sign.
Constants on right side of = sign.

2)
Variable X must be first and it must be positive.
3)
Coefficients must be integers (Wipeout fractions).

1.
y = -11x – 4
2.
x – 8y + 2 = 0
3.
y = -2/3x – 1
4.
3y - 2x = 6
