About NSBE
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), with over 30,000 members, is one of
the largest student-run organizations in the United States. NSBE comprises of more
than four hundred chapters that represent collegiate, alumni and pre-college
members in the United States, Africa, Asia, Canada, Europe and the Caribbean.
NSBE had its genesis in April 1975 in Region IV on the campus of Purdue University.
Its founders were 6 highly motivated young men (Anthony Harris, Brian Harris,
Stanley L. Kirtley, John W. Logan Jr., Edward A. Coleman and George A. Smith). In
1976, NSBE was incorporated under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as
a nonprofit organization in the State of Texas.

NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS | REGION V 2014 - 2015
LETTER FROM THE FINANCE CHAIR
Dear Prospective Corporate Partner,
My name is Chika Chima, Finance Chair for Region V of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).
As the elected liaison between Region V and potential corporate partners, I am pleased to invite your
company to partner with us in efforts to fulfill our Mission “to increase the number of culturally
responsible, black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the
community". Encompassing 10 states, Region V is the largest region in NSBE and offers your company
exposure to thousands of engineering students and professionals. Corporate partnerships are paramount
to our ability to succeed in fulfilling our Mission each year, reinforcing the national directives of NSBE,
and achieving the goals of our region.
Region V is known as the “Vanguard Region” because we have always led the way in pioneering new
programming and innovative methods for furthering the Mission of NSBE. We take pride in our
chapters and their ability to led by example and impact their respective communities while enriching our
membership. As an organization, we look to support our chapters in hosting programs that advance our
overall mission;; such as A Walk for Education and the NSBE Retention Program. However, Region V’s
most significant impact upon its chapters is done through programming and workshops that we host at
our two signature events: Regional Leadership Conference and Fall Regional Conference.
The following packet highlights opportunities at our Regional Leadership Conference that are available
to your company to aid us in our efforts. We invite you to partner with us in making a positive impact
on minorities in STEM related fields, while giving your company access to our deep talent pool.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding event participation, sponsorship contributions, or
commitments, feel free to contact me. On the behalf of Region V, I would like to thank you for your time
and consideration. We look forward to working with you this year.
Sincerely,
Chika Chima

REGIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
August 8-10, 2014
The University of Arkansas
Fayetteville, AR
Regional Leadership Conference (RLC) focuses on building and honing the leadership
skills of the Chapter Executive Board members within Region V. Often times there are
leaders within a chapter who step up to positions of leadership and find themselves
searching for the right direction in which to lead their members. This conference serves the
purpose of providing the guidance necessary to elevate individual chapters by teaching
their leaders how to lead. We will conduct workshops aimed at teaching chapter executive
board members how to perform their roles effectively and efficiently. We provide the
framework that chapter officers need to drive their chapter in line with the Mission of
NSBE and the National Directives.
At the conference we will cover a range of topics that include chapter development, time
management, organizational logistics, fundraising, and business etiquette. Support of this
conference is a solid investment in the development of strong leadership skills that are vital
to the success of students studying to work in STEM related industries.

FALL REGIONAL CONFERENCE
November 14-16, 2014
Crowne Plaza Baton Rouge
Baton Rouge, LA
The Fall Regional Conference (FRC) is the premier event that Region V hosts for its
membership. This year’s theme is: "Innovation & Excellence: Re-imagining the
future". In addition to networking, this conference provides its attendees with
workshops, competitions, TORCH (Technical Outreach Community Help) events,
and much more. The events at this conference are geared toward empowering our
membership to excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact

November 15th, the Career Fair will provide each company with exposure to Region
V’s best and brightest prospects with available interview booths, to aid in the
process.
FRC doesn’t just cater to college students. FRC consists of several other “miniconferences” that include: the Pre-College Initiative Mini-Conference, Graduate
School Mini-Conference, and various NSBE Professional events; culminating in a
diverse conference experience that serves all demographics within our membership.
