Tectonic Plates
by TIS56Unicorns
Convergent
Bounder
Play-doh Observation
We saw that the clays
were forming like
mountains, and when
they got higher, it
folded and fell down.
Explanation
A convergent boundary is when two plates collide with each other, and one land
goes into ground and melts into the magma. When this happens on land,
volcanoes and mountains form. When this happens in the sea, it makes new land,
for example, Hawaii.
Analogy
A convergent boundary is like a
truck and a car crashing into each
other, and the truck runs over the
car.
Play-doh Observations
Transform Plate
Boundaries
Bump appears in the middle ridge
Line in the middle ridge
Bumps go up and down(moving)
Hole appears
Harder in the middle
A transform plate boundary is when two plates slide against each
other in opposite directions. When it is a convergent plate, it
destroys the crust. When it is a divergent plate, it makes new crust.
But, Transform Plates are different. It will not destroy the crust and
it will not make new crust. When it happens, it will cause
earthquakes.
Analogy
When you rub your hands
together, it will make heat and
it will make energy.
B
A
This would be an example of a Divergent boundary (plate) Divergent Plates
usually create rifts or rift valleys or something like that in Iceland (see figure
A). Divergent is a long word used by scientists which means separating like
the plates. When they pull apart the magma blasts up, dries and makes a
new crust.
Analogy
Play-Doh Plates! (see figure B)
Seafloor spreading is like a conveyor belt
As we pulled away the plates they got
when it comes down from the ramp
softer in the middle.
