Submar ine C able System A r ab R epublic of E gypt & K ingdom of Saudi A r abia Project Characteristics • Egyptian and Saudi Ministry of Defense Survey Applications • Egyptian and Saudi Ministry of Defense Cable Installation Applications • Permit Tracking Matrix • Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency Environmental Screening Form B • Environmental Impact Assessment of Landing Sites in Egypt and KSA • Environmental Shoreline Study • Post Construction Biological Diversity Study Zafarana Jeddah Landing Sites in Egypt and KSA The Europe India Gateway (EIG) Submarine Cable System is a fibre optic telecommunications cable network that in its entirety extends from United Kingdom to India with several branch segments landing in different countries. Woods Hole Group Middle East (WHGME), under contract to CSA International, Inc., is providing environmental permit acquisition services for Segment 4 of the EIG Cable System landing sites in the Arab Republic of Egypt (ARE) and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The first phase of the project involved identification of all necessary proprietary, regulatory, and third party Permits required for the construction and installation of terrestrial and marine infrastructure of the cable system. The relevant information was compiled and summarized in a Permit Tracking Matrix format, which was updated on a regular basis. In the second phase, permit application materials were prepared and submitted to the regulatory authorities. In addition, site visits to the landing sites were conducted to prepare Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs). WHGME has provided the following services for the landing site in KSA: • Preparation of Ministry of Defense (MOD) Application Package for Survey Phase, • Preparation of MOD Application Package for Cable Installation Phase, • Permit tracking and follow up with the Landing Party, and • EIA for the Jeddah Landing Site. WHGME-CSA-SubmarineCable In addition, WHGME has assisted the Client with preparation and submission of application materials for other cable systems landing at Jeddah. Permitting services in Egypt include the following: • Coordination with the Landing Party for MOD Application Package for Survey Phase • Permit tracking and follow up with the Landing Party • Preparation and submission of Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) Environmental Screening Form B • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Ras Sidr Landing Site • Preparation of Egyptian Shoreline Protection Authority (ESPA) Package for Ras Sidr Landing Site. Additional work in Egypt includes preparation of MOD Application Package for Cable Installation Phase; EEAA Environmental Screening Form B and EIA for Zafarana Landing Site; Environmental Shoreline Study for the Zafarana ESPA Package; and a Post Construction Biological Diversity Study requested by EEAA. As part of the third and final phase, WHGME will provide support to the relevant Landing Party in Egypt and KSA for matters pertaining to the environmental approvals and permits linked to the project
