Thank me no thankings, nor proud me no prouds,/ But fettle your fine
joints 'gainst Thursday next/ To go with Paris to Saint Peter's Church, /

carrion! Out, you baggage! / You tallow-face (Shakespeare
III.v.153-159)
He refuses to listen to the pleas of his daughter and threatens her at the same time. These lines
spoken by Lord Capulet demonstrate the breakdown of the Capulet family because he no longer

Other characters like Romeo and Tybalt had no problem resorting to violence. This is due
to the lack of parental guidance given by the Montagues and the Capulets. As a result, they
became violent. In fact, these families encouraged the use of violence. In today’s society some
American teens are being taught by their parents that it is okay to harm others. Grown-ups are
not giving teens the moral guidance needed to develop concern for well-being of the those
around them. (Teen Violence Is a Serious Problem) Parents may witness their children being
violent when they are young. Guardians of children who observe kids being violent think that
they will change as they mature. This is not always the case. (Understanding Violent Behavior in
Children) Romeo and Tybalt’s parents turn a blind eye to their violent actions.
