HEPHAESTUS
By: Robert McBee
My Greek God is Hephaestus. He was in charge of fire and volcanoes. He
obtained this position because of his parents. Fire, tools and tongs are usually associated
with Hephaestus. Zeus and Hera are the parents of Hephaestus. Now some say that Hera
through Hephaestus over a cliff and he fell for an entire day. Others say that his father
Zeus through him over the mountain after an argument between his mother and his father
and he took his mothers side and he fell for nine days and nine nights and landed on the
island of Lemnos that is where he built home. He had one child and the childs name was
Erechtheus. He had a very special power he made armor for the gods and heroes he also
made thunderbolts for Zeus. Hephaestus’s wife was Aphrodite but he caught her cheating
on him so he remarried to Aglaea. He uses a volcanoe as his forge. He is the only god to
be physically ugly. Also Hephaestus is very lame because of his toss over the mountain.
Some say that Hera produced Hephaestus by her self and that Zeus had nothing to do
with it. Hephaestus made a throne for his mother and invited her to come sit in it and
when she did the chair started to levitate and she could not get out of her chair. The
Olympians tried to reason with him to let her go and he said that he would not unless he
married Aphrodite or Athene. Aphrodite was caught in bed with Ares but Hephaestus
knew that she may be cheating so he rigged the bed with a trap so that when they got into
bed they would be trapped and they were. Then he took the bed with them on it so that
the rest of Olympians could laugh at them.
