Steps for word problems
1 Copy the Data into the data table or make a diagram. List your unknowns as blanks.
2 Find the equation sentence and write it as an equation using your abbreviations from the Data table.
3 Pick an unknown and give it a variable that makes sense. It might help to pick the unknown that is the lowest amount. Then write all of the other unknowns using your new variable.

Substitute your new terms into the equation and solve.

Check your answer by asking:
1) Does my answer make sense?
2) Have I answered the question?
3) Do the numbers work with the given data?

Write a final statement and remember to use the proper units.
