House Blueprint ‐‐ Multiplication Project
When houses are designed, a blueprint is used so that
construction workers know exactly what to build and how big to
make the rooms in the house.
Blueprints draw out each room in the house and include the
measurements of each room. Typically, in the United States,
these measurements are made in feet and inches.
Pretend you are an architect designing a house. You want to
design and build a house that is appealing to people so that they
will buy it. However, after you design your house, your
construction crew needs to know how much carpet and tile they
need to buy to cover the floors.
Your job is to:
1) Design a nice house that has at least two bedrooms, one
bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room.
2) Find the area of each room.
3) Figure out how much carpet and how much tile is needed to
cover the entire floor in your house.
4) Compute the cost of the carpet and the cost of the tile so the
construction workers have enough money to buy the carpet and
tile.
You will be choosing your own type of carpet and tile from the
following websites and calculating the prices based on the
prices listed.
