From the platform in Geel, LEGO Direct to Consumer internet orders are being processed for deliveries in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Kuehne + Nagel’s project concept includes the integration of LEGO Groups online/webshop into the company’s warehouse management system, ensuring seamless data transfer and continual status updates. Kuehne + Nagel´s operation in Geel, will balance the volume-fluctuations typical for internet sales and will manage the estimated growth of online sales. It is an ideal location due to its extensive safety features and excellent links with LEGO Groups key markets. The warehouse processes are supported by radio frequency (RF) and scanning technologies. Furthermore, an automated packing machine and sorter has been installed for outbound shipments to Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The Geel site has a total capacity of 45,000 sqm which can be expanded by another 30,000 sqm. 17.30 – 18.30 Transfer to Radisson Blue Hotel, Hasselt Thursday 17 March 9.00 – 10.00 Transfer to Nike, Laakdal 10.00 – 12.00 Company visit to Nike European Logistics Center (ELC) Nike’s ELC is Europe’s biggest distribution center and the largest in the world for the American sportswear distribution. Despite being around for over 50 years, Nike continues to deliver above-average growth and earnings. Ecommerce is without a doubt one of their biggest and most important growth opportunities and will be for years to come. Nike’s European Logistics Campus consists of three distribution centers in Laakdal and a fourth one in nearby Herentals. The Campus coordinates all logistics activities between 200 factories and 200.000 delivery addresses. All Nike footwear, apparel and accessories sold in retail outlets across Europe pass virtually or physically in the logistics campus. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// FLANDERS INVESTMENT & TRADE LOGISTICS CENTRES OF THE FUTURE DAY FIELD TRIP Discover the business opportunities 2- 16.03.2016 | 4/6 Nike is currently constructing a new distribution center in Flanders (Ham) worth EUR 23.5 million. The new distribution center will be located near the Albert Canal and complements the existing centers in Laakdal and Herentals. Its 40,000 square meters of storage space will mainly be used for footwear, which will be distributed to wholesale, retail and e-commerce channels in the whole of Europe. The center is part of Nike’s efforts to make its supply chain faster and more flexible and plays a pivotal role in the company’s European growth plans. 12.00 – 13.30 Visit to Logistics Innovation & Training Center (LITC) The Logistics Innovation and Training Center (LITC) is located in Nike’s European Logistics Campus in Laakdal. It is a collaboration between Nike’s European Logistics Campus, the Thomas More Bachelors school and the KU Leuven university and has three objectives: (1) to be an inspiring meeting place for the logistics sector, (2) to drive open innovation in sustainable logistics and (3) to attract talent to logistics education, training & professions. 13.30 – 14.30 Transfer to Atlas Copco, Hoeselt 14.30 – 16.00 Company visit to Atlas Copco Atlas Copco, a leading provider of sustainable productivity solutions, recently inaugurated an expanded, state-of-the-art distribution center in Belgium. The center enhances the speed and reliability of the distribution and availability of products and parts to customers worldwide, and prepares the Group for further growth. The distribution center in Hoeselt, Belgium, is the main hub for distribution of products, spare parts and accessories for power tools, assembly systems, portable compressors, generators, road construction equipment and more. The expanded center is a safe and top-modern facility with high-tech solutions like voice picking, a process in which the operator is guided by an automated voice system for improved accuracy and productivity. It has transformed from a pick, pack, and ship facility to a total supply chain competence center that builds logistic networks based on customer needs. 16.00 – 17.30 The expansion includes 12 new loading docks, storage space and new ergonomic packing stations, bringing the size of the facility’s floor space to a total of 30 000 square meters.
