ALGEBRA BINGO
Instructions
Use scrap paper. Get students to draw a 3 by 3 grid and choose 9 values from the 20 that the teacher has
written on the board.
Students use pen to avoid cheating.
Check their neighbour and initial before the start.
Teacher photocopies clues and crosses out as they are called. Change any clue that is too difficult for your
class.
Teacher decides whether to reward lines or wait for a total bingo.
It can be encouraging to offer prizes for the first 4 or 5 lines and then go for total bingo.
Teacher Note: There is a certain amount of vocabulary involved when clues are read aloud. It becomes
apparent which words are confusing for the students and the teacher can focus on this in future lessons.
Extension: Students can make up clues which they give to the teacher. They write the answer on the
board and the class selects the answers for their bingo board. The teacher draws their clues out of a box.
Aim: To practise simple algebra addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
