REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL
FOR MOBILE ELECTRIC GENERATOR
This is a request for proposal for the purchase of a new portable electric power generating
unit to be used as a source of temporary electrical power at various facilities at the
University of Michigan. We would be grateful if your proposal would include -- but not
be limited by -- the following information. Please feel free to suggest options, which may
be, add value to this purchase.
General. 1 - synchronous 350 kW diesel engine-generator-tank mounted on a pull
trailer. Adjustable 120/208/240 or 277/480 single and three phase output voltage. Power
factor 80% 60 Hz with voltage regulation of 1 percent of the total system from no load to
full load.
Dimensions. Please indicate length, width, height and weight of the entire enginegenerator-tank-trailer unit.
Engine. Please indicate engine manufacturer and model; bore-stroke, displacement,
horsepower at 1800 rpm, fuel, coolant, oil and battery capacity and consumption.
Describe engine controls; auto safety shutdown for high engine temperature, low oil
pressure and low coolant level. Is the unit equipped with an hourmeter, start switch,
preheat switch, emergency shutdowns and fault indicators?
Generator.
Please indicate generator manufacturer and model.
Describe
instrumentation, governor (manufacturer and model), voltage regulator control, phase
selection switches, voltmeter, frequency meter, pilot lights, circuit breakers, ammeters) Is
the unit equipped with auto start-stop connection, auto synchronization or electronic
governors?
Fuel Supply & Tank Capacity. Please provide information about tank size, fuel type
and average Fuel Consumption at Full Load. Are there provisions for fuel priming?

Transport. Describe the pull trailer, skid or container that shall be used to transport the
engine-generator-fuel tank and controls and how it is normally towed to an application
site. Can the height be adjusted? Please include information about number and size of
wheels, axle type and suspension, type of hitch and turn signals. What kind of lifting
equipment, if any, is required upon initial delivery?
Sound attenuation. Please sound levels at full load (Please state ranges in dB per foot)
What is the cost of improved attenuation?
Charging Alternator. Do batteries charge when the unit is operating?
Cable. Are there provisions for cable storage?
Electrical Distribution







Can more than one output voltage be supplied simultaneously?
What is the maximum size cable that may be connected to the output bus bars?
What is the size of the compression lugs, if any?
Are panels labeled to help operators safely identify output voltages?
Describe provisions for metering, and ground fault protection.
Please provide information about bus bar spacing that will allow multiple output
cable connections.
Please include a sketch of the dimensions and a list of switchgear controls and
metering
Security. Is the generator set tamperproof during operation? Are water and fuel drains
mounted inside enclosure?
Housing. Describe metal housing. Does the unit come with a decal kit. What would be
the cost for custom painting? Is the unit equipped with interior compartment lights and
120/240 convenience outlets?
Radiator, exhaust discharge. What provisions are available for directing heat and
exhaust vertically away from people and buildings?
Auxiliary Equipment. Please describe any other equipment that may be needed that has
not been previously itemized.
Delivery/Availability. How soon after purchase order is received may equipment be
delivered? How will the equipment be delivered?
Technical Support. What equipment/accessories/technical support is available? What
kind of training arrangements are available. how long will they take and what do they
cost?

Warrantee provisions. Please state the terms of the warrantee and any maintenance
contracts available with the purchase of the unit.
Preventive Maintenance Requirements. Please state the nature of the preventive
maintenance required by the manufacturer for the engine and generator in order to meet
manufacturer warrantee provisions.
Terms of Payment. Please state terms of payment and the duration of the quotation.
Cost. Please quote the cost for the purchase of 1 unit and 2 units.
