Dreams Wisdom Innocence takes its
title from Stockhausen’s Tierkreis,
which began life in Stockhausen’s play
with his toddler daughter, evolving into
twelve simple melodies, one for each
zodiac sign. Their dream-like innocence
was a touchstone for the composer, who
returned to them many times in his life
as the basis for more extended pieces.
Couperin’s music draws us into the
evocative pastoral of the Baroque
landscape, the gentle intimacy of his
character pieces revealing his subtle
and powerful insight into human nature.
Purcell’s music also wears its art lightly,
his songs crystallising love’s torments
and pleasures in their dazzling economy.
Programme includes:
Karlheinz Stockhausen:
Tierkreis (Nr. 414/5)
François Couperin:
Pieces from 6ième Ordre, including
Les baricades mistérieuses
Andrew Wilson-Dickson:
‘The Elephant’, from Karuṇā
Songs and keyboard music by
Henry Purcell.
All proceeds from this concert will be
going to support Maytree.
