HostedannuallybytheChaînedesRôtisseurs,theworld’soldestandlargestfood andwinesociety,theannualcompetitionpromotessommeliereducationand servicecontributingtotheunderstanding,appreciation,andenjoymentoffine winesandbeverages. Nowinits16thyearintheUnitedStates,theChaîne’sYoungSommeliers Competitionistheoldestcompetitionofitskind,and“isoneofthemostchallenging andhighlyrespectedcompetitionsamongwineprofessionalsinthenation”,says CharlesBennett,GrandEchansonoftheChaînedesRôtisseurs. “ThequalityoftalententeringtheYoungSommeliersCompetitionincreasesevery year,”continuedBennett.“Theamountofskillanddedicationthattheseyoung sommeliersbringtothecompetitionistrulyremarkable,andIcannotwaittosee howtheyshowcasetheiruniqueabilitiesandareasofexpertiseintheregionalsemi‐ finalsthesenextfewmonths.” FromJanuarythroughMarch,the27sommelierscompeteinpersonattheregional examsheldinoneoftheChaîne’snineregions,basedonthecompetitor’splaceof employmentorresidence.Ingroupsofthree,candidatesfaceoffinatablesidewine servicetestandablindtastingofsixwines.Onecandidatefromeachofthenine regionswillmoveontotheNationalCompetitionheldApril28throughApril29, 2016attheHiltonSonoma,SonomaWineCountryHotelinSonoma,CA. CompetitionjudgesincludeMastersofWine,MasterSommeliers,previousnational winners,otherexperiencedwineprofessionals,andasmallnumberofChaîne memberswithextensivewineknowledge.Thefinaldayiscappedwithanawards ceremonyandgaladinner.
