HEPATIC DISEASE - Hepatamine
An orange flavoured powdered drink
mix containing essential and
non-essential amino acids,
carbohydrate and colouring. The
amino acid profile is low in aromatic
amino acids and high in branched
chain amino acids (BCAAs).
HEPATIC DISEASE
Hepatamine
Hepatamine is a BCAA drink mix, designed as a
supplementary source of nutrition for use in the
dietary management of severe liver disease.
1. To the contents of one sachet (50g) of
Hepatamine add a small amount of the
water prescribed. Stir with a fork until a
smooth paste is obtained.
Precautions
2. Continue stirring whilst adding the rest of
the prescribed water.
Must only be used under strict medical supervision.
Not for parenteral use. Not intended for use as the
sole source of nutrition. Suitable for children over
three years of age and adults.
Preparation and administration
The dosage should be determined by a clinician or
dietitian only and is dependent on the age, body
weight and medical condition of the patient.
1:5 dilution w/v (i.e. 50g of product plus 250ml
water). Hepatamine can be given in a more
concentrated form (1:4 dilution w/v), however, care
should be taken for osmotically sensitive patients. A
lower concentration may be required (1:7 dilution
w/v) until tolerance is achieved.
The following table can be used to achieve the
required dilution:

3. Once reconstituted, the feed must be
stored in a refrigerator and used within 24
hours of preparation. Stir or shake
immediately before serving.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place. Once a sachet is
opened it should be stored in an airtight
container and used within 2-3 days.
