Classification: paraphyletic group of Eukaryotes
Characteristics: flagella, reproduction via longitudinal binary fission
Structures
axoneme- “skeleton” of cilia and flagella
axostyle- supportive structure made of microtubules attached to base of flagella
basal body/parabasal body/blepharoplast/kinetosome- organelle at base of flagellum
from which grows the axoneme
costa- structure that extends along base of undulating membrane
cytostome- cell mouth
kinetoplast- giant mitochondrion at base of flagellum
