DIRECTIONS: Below is a cumulative review of the astronomy unit. All questions are to be answered
using complete sentences. Reviews completed and corrected entitle students to use their notes for
the last five minutes of the quiz. The review is due Tuesday, December 6 with a quiz scheduled for
Wednesday, December 7. Students are to study for their quiz 20 minutes each night prior to the quiz
using their notes, handouts and reviews.

bigger? Explain the Big Bang Theory as a start to the universe.
6. What is a galaxy? What are the three different categories of galaxies? How are they different from one another?
7. What is a star? What are most stars composed of? Where are most stars formed? How are stars classified?
8. What is the definition of solar system? Which objects in the Solar System are the largest? How is a comet
different from a planet? How is a moon different from a planet?
9. What are four similarities between the inner planets? What are four similarities between the outer planets? Why
can we assume that the outer planets would experience cooler temperatures than the inner planets?
10. Label the picture of our solar system with all major parts and names of planets. When finished, give three reasons
why this is an inaccurate model.
