Basic Format
Author’s last name, Initial(s) or Name of the Organization. (year). Title of the specific
web document that you used. Retrieved http://...html
Examples
Perez, M. (2006). Human development. Retrieved from http://www.health.org/
humandevelopment.html
Canadian Cancer Society. (2010). 2010 edition of Canadian cancer statistics. Retrieved from
http://www.cancer.ca
Canadian Nurses Association (CNA). (2008). Code of ethics for registered nurses. Retrieved
from http://www.cna-aiic.ca
Sun damage: Know the realities. (n.d). Retrieved from http://sundamage.ca

Look for an author’s/authors’ names first. If there isn’t a specific author, use the
name of the organization (Canadian Cancer Society and Canadian Nurses Association
in the examples above).
•
If there isn’t an author or organization clearly identified, question if this source is
sufficiently academic for your assignment. There is a good chance it isn’t.
•
The fourth example above (sun damage) does not have: an author, organization or
date. In this case, (n.d.) stands for “no date”
•
Notice that the title of the web document is in italics.
•
In the 6th edition of APA, the exact date (day, month, and year) that you retrieved
the web document is not necessary.
