PRESS RELEASE
CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL PIANO SERIES
Artistic Director: Martin Roscoe
West Road Concert Hall, 11 West Road, Cambridge CB3 9DP
TWO INTERNATIONAL TCHAIKOVSKY PIANO COMPETITION PRIZE
WINNERS TO STAR IN CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL PIANO SERIES
Following its highly successful first season, Hazard Chase is pleased to announce a second season in its
Cambridge International Piano Series at West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge. The Series will include five
recitals between October and May 2013 by three established and highly distinguished pianists – Peter
Donohoe, Barry Douglas and Martin Roscoe – and two exciting and exceptionally talented young pianists
– Alexandra Dariescu and Joyce Yang.
Peter Donohoe, Silver Medal Winner in the 1982 International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition and
renowned for his thrilling performances, will launch the season on 10th October at West Road Concert
Hall. His concert, entitled ‘Opus One’ will feature first thoughts from six great composers. Hazard Chase
is most grateful to the N W Brown Group Limited for sponsoring this concert.
Romanian Alexandra Dariescu (14th November) was featured as BBC Music Magazine’s ‘Rising Star’ last
year. She is rapidly establishing herself as a recitalist across Europe and the USA and her playing is
defined by its great beauty of tone. This will be her West Road début.
South Korean Joyce Yang (30th January 2013) won second prize in the 2005 Van Cliburn Competition when
she was the youngest competitor. Since then, she has built a very successful career, especially in the USA,
where she has played with many of the top orchestras. This concert will mark her UK début.
Barry Douglas (6th March 2013) won the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in 1986: the only
non-Russian since Van Cliburn to have won it outright. This concert will have an all-Brahms programme –
and will also celebrate the release of his new Brahms CD from Chandos.
Martin Roscoe (15th May 2013), the Series’ Artistic Director, will play some of his favourite pieces by
Haydn, Brahms, Beethoven and Schubert including two of the most sublime Sonatas in the repertoire.
The concerts all take place at West Road Concert Hall, 11 West Road, Cambridge CB3 9DP (7.30 pm) – a
concert hall with the finest acoustics for piano recitals in Cambridge.
The N W Brown Group Ltd (www.nwbrown.co.uk) – Sponsors of 10th October Concert
Hazard Chase Ltd is especially grateful to the N W Brown Group for its support of Peter Donohoe’s concert
on 10th October.
Hazard Chase, founded in 1990, was initially a member of the N W Brown Group who already had an
established interest and clientele in the classical music world. Thanks to their enlightened and
enthusiastic support for nearly ten years, the company developed to become one of the leading
international artist management agencies. Still based in Cambridge, it now also has offices in London and
Berlin. The continuing relationship between the two businesses is an outstanding example of local
companies collaborating to enhance and extend provision of top quality music in Cambridge – and, in
1
particular, to provide a series of recitals not previously found in Cambridge featuring some of the world’s
finest pianists.
In addition, the N W Brown Group’s sponsorship provides an enlightened partnership emphasising the
importance of supporting both established and gifted young musicians and thus making top quality music
available to all in Cambridge and the surrounding area.
Comment from the N W Brown Group Ltd
‘Having sponsored the final concert in the first season, N W Brown is, once again, proud to be sponsoring a
concert in the second season of the Cambridge International Piano Series. We are always delighted to
