Read the following problem.
Annette is making a design with triangles, squares,
and pentagons. Each pentagon has a square at each of
its points and a triangle in its center. How many
squares and triangles will Annette need for 3 pentagons?
1. Write the question as a fill-in-the-blank sentence.
2. Complete the graphic aid. The pentagons are already drawn for you.
3. What is the relationship between the number of pentagons, the number of squares,
and the number of triangles?
4. How many squares and triangles does Annette need?
Use a graphic aid to solve.
5. Bill is making a design with
squares, triangles, and octagons.
Each square has a triangle at each
corner. Each triangle has an
octagon in its center. How many
triangles and octagons does Bill
draw for 4 squares?

and the number of triangles?
The number of squares is 5 times the number of pentagons;
the number of triangles is equal to the number of pentagons.
4. How many squares and triangles does Annette need?
15 squares; 3 triangles
Use a graphic aid to solve.
