Timeline of Russian Revolution Date of Event Event Title Event Description Jan 1st, 1905 1905 Revolution - Working conditions in Russia were harsh - All workers decided to strike - After the riots and strikes, Tsar Nicholas issued the October Manifesto, a document which gave basic rights and liberties to the people and brought an end to the 1905 Russian Revolution - The Duma was also created, which gave the people a say in the government Jan 22nd, 1905 Bloody Sunday - A massacre in St. Petersburg, Russia - Peaceful demonstrators were marching to present a petition to Tsar Nicholas II and then were gunned down by the royal guards - The striking workers were led by a priest - The number of killed and injured is uncertain but the average that is accepted is around 1000 people Dec 30th, 1916 Rasputin Murdered - A group of nobles lured Rasputin to the palace, where they attempted to poison him. - Failing at poisoning him, they shot him at close range - They eventually threw him into a freezing river, and he finally drowned Mar 1st, 1917 February (March) Revolution -The people were upset by the First World War - Also upset by how the country was being run by Tsar Nicholas's government - Workers in Petrograd went on strike - The immediate result was the abdication (or giving up power) of Tsar Nicholas II Oct 25th, 1917 Bolshevik Revolution (October Revolution) - Was a political revolution and a part of the Russian Revolution of 1917 - The October Revolution in Petrograd overthrew the Russian Provisional Government (Duma) and gave the power to the local soviets (Lenin & Trotsky) 21st Jan, 1924 Lenin Dies/USSR forms - The result of Lenin dying is a race to who would gain power next -Stalin gained power and eliminated other opponents - Stalin became the leader of the USSR - Stalin lead the USSR with a large-scale industrialization becoming a booming economy - Brutal leader who used his secret police to kill about 20 million people who opposed the government
