and Absolute Value Inequalities
Interval Notation
Interval notation is another way to represent the
solution set. Interval notation uses open
parentheses ( ) and closed parentheses [ ]. Use
the open parentheses if the value is not
included in the graph and closed parentheses if
the value is included.
Conjunction
A conjunction is a compound statement formed
by joining two statements with the connector
“and.” A conjunction is true when both of its
combined parts are true; otherwise it is false.
Disjunction
A disjunction is a compound statement formed
by joining two statements with the connector
“or.” A disjunction is false if and only if both
statements are false; otherwise it is true.
Union of Sets
The union of sets A and B, written A B, is the
set of elements that are members of set A or
of set B or of both sets. This is used to denote
a disjunction.
