BACKGROUND
CentreFellowshipChurch(CFC)isanindependent,Spirit-filled1churchlocatedat375
HansenBoulevard,inaresidentialareaonthenorthsideofOrangeville,Ontario.CFC
wasplantedbySteveandYvonneCummingsasOrangevilleVineyardChristian
FellowshipinNovember1994asaresultoftheoutpouringoftheHolySpiritat
TorontoAirportVineyardChristianFellowship.WhenTACFdisassociatedfromthe
Vineyardmovementanddropped‘Vineyard’fromitsname,thischurchfollowedsuit
andPastorCummingsinstigatedthecreationofthePartnersInHarvestfellowshipof
churches.CFCsteppedbackto‘FriendsInHarvest’statusin2010andchangedits
nametoCFC. CFCopenedits$2.3millionbuildinginFebruary2011.Thebuildingisstreet-level,
multi-functional,withanoperatingcafé,andfeatureslargeareasofwindowto
conveylight,openness,invitationandtransparency.Thelocationisresidentialwith
twoelementaryschoolstwoblocksaway,andahighschoolfiveblockstothesouth.
By2012,Sundayattendancegrewtoabout120.However,Pr.Cummingsstepped
downinFebruary2013andwithoutapastorthecongregationhalvedoverthenext
twoyears.David&CharmaineHicksbecamepart-timeLeadPastoralCouplein
February2015.VotingmembershipisvestedintheLeadershipTeamandBoardof
Directors,withtheexpectationtokeepthecongregationapprised.
CHURCHLIFE
Sundayservicesfeaturecontemporary,mid-tempoworshipthatmixesPentecostal,
Vineyard,Renewal,BethelReddingChurchandtraditionalworshipmusic.‘Family
Time’isforofferings,announcements,testimonies,propheticwords,congregational
prayerandhealing.ThemessageshelpfollowersofJesusknowtheloveandwillof
theirFather,walkinthecompanionshipoftheHolySpirit,andunderstandtheBible’s
relevancetodailylifeandtheChurch’scalling.Sundaymorningchildren’sprograms
emphasizecreativeandinteractivewaystoguidekidsintobuildingtheir
understandingandpersonalrelationshipswithGod.Sundayvisitorsandregular
attendeeswholiketheCFCexperiencecitethepalpablesenseofGod’spresence,the
casualfamily-likeatmosphere,andthefriendlinessofthepeople.
ThereisaMondaynightprayergroup,pre-serviceprayer,andaltarministry.Personal
prayerministryisofferedbythepastor,andinfull-dayministrysessionsbylay
ministers.Propheticencouragementforindividualsandthechurchbodyissought
andvalued.Therearemid-weekstudygroupsandteachingseriestwoorthreetimes
ayear.CFCsupportsseverallocalandinternationaloutreaches.
Thecaféisopenweekdaysandattractsprimarilywomenandretirees,someschoolagechildrenandteenagevolunteers.ThisisCFC’sbuilt-invenueforcommunity
contact,friendshipevangelismandaPrayerTreetobridgethecaféwithCFC’s
CentreFellowshipChurch,OrangevilleON,2016

congregationallife.Thebuildingisalsousedregularlybycommunitygroupsandlocal
ministries,andoutsiderentals.
Thereisaveryhighlevelofvolunteerismamongthecongregationandleaders,and
specialeventssuchasweekendseminars,specialservicesandcommunityoutreach
arestronglysupported.Withacongregationofabout60,CFCoperatesfacilitiesand
programsworthyofcongregationstwoorthreetimesitssize.

OTHERPATTERNSTHATEMERGED:
• Asenseoffamily(inthesenseofbelonging)isthemostcommonarticulation
ofwhatthatlovewouldlookandfeellike,followedbyfriendlyasCFCsstrong
suit.Relationshipisahighvalue.
• ThemainunifyingdesireisforthetangiblePresenceofGod–particularlythe
palpablepresenceofHolySpiritwhenthecongregationmeets,andrepeated
mentionsofthedesiretohearGod’svoice,personallyandforthechurch.
• Thetwomostfeltneedsareforoutreachintermsofbothchurchgrowthand
newconversions,andkids&youth. • Evangelismismostlycouchedintermsofin-gatheringpeopletoahealthy,
lovingenvironment,ratherthanseekingandsavingthelost.Thesearenot
mutuallyexclusive–sustainabilityrequiresboth.Thiscongregationneedsto
finditsgrowingedge:apartnershipofevangeliststosupplythecaregivers,
andcaregiverstofollowupfortheevangelists. • TherewasadistinctdesiretoembracefreedominChristandhealingforthe
wholeperson:spiritual,mental/emotional,physical,andrelational.Pr.Hicks

CFCASPIRATIONS
CentreFellowshipChurchisplantedontheresidentialnorthsideofOrangevilleamid
homes,schools,seniorresidencesandruralproperties.Despitethelocal
community’smiddleclasscomfortandeconomicstability,agreatneedforpersonal
wholenessandrelationalconnectednessspansallagegroups–thiswillonlybefound
inGod’slife-changingpresencesharedamonghealthy,life-givingpeople.AsCFCfinds
itsgrowinginvitationaledge–intermsofoutreach,communityserviceandevents,
andevangelism–CFCprovidesthecommunityawelcomingatmospherewhere
