Number Series
In logical reasoning number series is a very important part. In the number
series in which terms follow a certain pattern. Number sequences consist of
a finite row of numbers of which one of the numbers is missing in the
sequence.
Types ofNumber Series:
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
Power Series
Product Series
CombinationSeries
Difference Series
Prime Series
1) Power series:
In Power series we have squares and cubes questions on numberseries.
Sometime they indicate directly squares and cubes series of numbers.
Otherwise they indirectly squares and cubes series of numbers
A)SquaresSeries:
In the squares series, terms in the series directly/indirectly indicate squares
of natural number.
Example:
1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36,………
Explanation:
In above example we have the squares of consecutive numbers.
i.e.
(1)2, (2)2, (3)2, (4)2, (5)2, (6)2……..
So next value is 72=49
Logical Reasoning

Example:
0, 3, 8, 15, 24, 35,…….
Explanation:
In above example terms is written as
i.e. (1)2– 1, (2)2– 1, (3)2 -1, (4)2 -1, (5)2 -1, (6)2 - 1
So next value is (7)2 - 1= 48
B)Cube Series:
In the cube series, terms in the series directly / indirectly indicate cube of
natural number increasing order or decreeing order.
Example:
729, 512, 343,216,125, 64, ………
Explanation:
In above example we have the cube of consecutive numbers.
i.e.
(9)3, (8)3, (7)3, (6)3, (5)3, (4)3
So next value is (3)3= 27
Example:
10,29,66,127,218,…..
Explanation:
In above example we have the cube of consecutive numbers.
i.e.
(2)3 + 2=10
(3)3+ 2=27
Logical Reasoning

(4)3+ 2=66
(5)3+ 2=127
(6)3+ 2=218
So next value is (7)3+ 2= 245
2)Product Series:
In this seriesnumber is multiply by constant number and also increase or
decrease number.
Example:
10, 20 ,40 , 80 , …..
Explanation:
In above series each number is multiply by 2.
So next value is 80 X 2 =160
Example:
140, 70,35,17.5, ……
Explanation:
In above series each number is multiply by 1/2.
So next value is 17.5 X 1/2 = 8.75
Example:
5 ,25,100,300,….
Explanation:
In above series each first number is multiply by 5 we get 25
Logical Reasoning

Second term is multiply by 4 we get 100
Third term is multiply by 3 we get 300
Fourth term is multiply by 2 we get 600
3)Combination Series
In this series we have two or three combination of series.
Example:
2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 9, 8, 12,
Explanation:
In above example we
1st ,3rd,5th,7thplace number form the series of 2 product.
i.e.2,4,6, 8.
2nd,4th,6th,7th place number form the series of 3 product.
i.e.3, 6, 9, 12
4) Difference Series
In this series we have constant deference or increasing deference or
decreasing deference.
Example:
16, 12, 8,4, ….
Explanation:
16, 12,8,4 in this series number is decreases by 4
16 – 4 =12
12– 4 =8
Logical Reasoning
www.aptionline.com
8–4=4
4–4=0
So next value is 0
Example:
20, 25, 30, 35, ………
Explanation:
20, 25, 30, 35,in this series number is increases by 5
So next value is 40
Example:
1, 2, 4, 7, 11, 16 , …
Explanation:
In above series difference between first and second is 1
In above series difference between second and third is 2
In above series difference between thirdand fourthis 3
And so on
So next value is 16 + 6 =22
5) Prime Series
Example:
4, 9, 25, 49, …….
Explanation:
Here (2)2 = 4
(3)2 = 9
Logical Reasoning
www.aptionline.com
(5)2 = 25
(7)2 = 49
So next value is (11)2=121
Example:
10, 12,15,20,27,….
Explanation:
Here the difference between terms is consecutive numberi.e. 2,3,5,7
And next value 27 + 11 =38
