The British won, but there were issues between Great Britain and the colonists. Tax Laws Passed This was not a tax, but it gave the British East India Company exclusive rights to sell tea in the colonies. 1773 Boston Tea Party (Coercive Acts) Colonists (Intolerable Acts) Colonists form Committees of Correspondence to communicate their situations to each other then sent delegates to a Continental Congress in order to address the problem of the Intolerable Acts. Effects of the Boston Tea Party Parliament passed the “Coercive Acts” Closed the Boston Harbor. Took away the rights of Massachusetts to govern itself. 1st Continental Congress Meets vs. Colonists call the Coercive Acts the “Intolerable Acts”. Parliament did this because of the American Boycott on Tea, The British East India Company was in financial trouble. The Sons of Liberty were afraid that availability of cheap tea would undermine their boycott, so they dressed up like natives and threw tea overboard. British 1. Establish a boycott on all trade with Great Britain. 2. Sent a petition to the king. 3. Advised American Colonists to arm themselves.
