WHAT IS TEAM SORTING ?
10 individual cattle each carry their own specific number (0 to 9).
Working in teams of 2 riders, the aim of the sport is to "sort" the 10 head of cattle in the correct numerical
sequence (starting at a random number drawn by the judge). Eg; if the judge draws number 6, then the cattle
must be "sorted" in the sequence 6,7,8,9,0,1,2,3,4,5.
The cattle must be sorted from one section of the arena to another section of the arena, in the shortest
possible time, keeping each of the already "sorted" or "cut" cattle in the second section of the arena whilst
keeping each of the "yet to be sorted" cattle in the first section of the arena until it is their turn to be sorted.
HOW IS TEAM SORTING SCORED ?
Whilst ideally all 10 cattle with get sorted within the 2 minute time limit, a sorting team may call "time" at any point within
their 2 minutes without necessarily all of their 10 cattle sorted.
Obviously, a team that sorts all 10 cattle with the fastest time within 2 minutes will win.
However; if no team has sorted all 10 cattle, then the team with the most cattle sorted within the 2 minute time will win.
The number of cattle sorted is a more important factor for scoring than the time taken, so for example a team that
successfully sort 6 cattle in the full 2 minutes will score higher than a second team that sort 5 cattle in 1 minute but then
prematurely call "time".
A team that successfully sort 5 cattle in one minute and then prematurely call "time", will beat a team that successfully sort
5 cattle in the allowed two minutes but will in turn lose to a team that successfully sort 6 cattle.

No whips or crops in the arena or any contact with cow by hand or hat.
Maximum of 2 runs per rider.
Judge will draw a number & the team will have 5 seconds to cross the line, then clock will start.
There will be 10 cattle at the end of the arena marked with numbers from 0 to 9.
Starting number for each team will be drawn when the team is in the arena.
You are to start with the starting number & continue in numerical order eg if 6 is drawn as the starting number, then
the cattle are sorted in the sequence 6,7,8,9,0,1,2,3,4,5.
10. Cattle are considered sorted when the cow crosses the gate.
11. If any cattle crosses the gate out of sequence, the team will be judged "no time".
12. If cattle already sorted come back over the gate, the team will be judged "no time".
13. Teams will have a time limit of 2 minutes, with a warning whistle at 90 seconds.
th
14. Time will stop when the 10 cow crosses the gate.
15. A team may prematurely call time at any point but only when a) all cattle are under control AND b) both team
members raise their hand and calls for time.
16. Horses must not cross the gate after the last cow, or it will be judged "no time".
17. "Spotting" cattle or "fanning" cattle from outside the arena for a time will be cause for disqualification.
18. Judges decision is final.
