Solving Systems of Equations, Part 2
Solve the following equations by addition/elimination:
1. 3x – 4 = y
y + 3x = 2
(1, -1)
2. 3/2 x – 4y = 10
x + 8y = 12
(8, ½)
3. 3x – 4y = 25
6x – 8y = 10
No solution
4. ½ x – ¼ y = 8
¾x–y=4
(112/5, 64/5)
5. 2x – 3y = 4
11x – 5y = -1
(-1, -2)
6. Solve by any method:
0.05x – 0.13y = 0.01
0.03x – 0.07y = 0.03
(8,3)
7. The sum of two consecutive numbers is four less than their difference. Find the numbers
-3, -2
8. A number plus three is five times a second number. The first number is also eight times the
second number. Find the two numbers
-8, -1
