Homophone
When we were first learning words, we learned that there were
words that sounded the same, that were sometimes spelled differently
and had different definitions. You probably know this as homonyms.
Homonym is defined as one of two or more words spelled and
pronounced alike, but with different meanings. For example, cleave is to
cut and cleave is to adhere. The more correct name for this activity is
homophone, which is defined as one of two or more words pronounced
alike, but spelled differently with different meaning, such as they’re,
their, and there.
This brain fitness activity will help exercise attention and language
abilities. Try to generate a homophone for each word listed below. Some
will have more than one. The first one is done for you.
