“...your microbiology specialists” Stachybotrys Selective Agar Stachybotrys is the fungal organism that is known for causing problems in moist areas in homes and buildings. It has been know to grow on damp wallboard and produces toxins that cause respiratory problems and a host of other symptoms. This new media manufactured by Hardy Diagnostics consists of Potato Dextrose Agar with proprietary selective agents. The selective agents inhibit most bacteria and most other types of fungi that grow on environmental surfaces. Selective agents are required, since Stachybotrys is usually crowded out on a non-selective medium. Potato Dextrose Agar was found to perform better than cellulose agar for the cultivation of Stachybotrys.
