Unit #9: Circles
This unit you may have a TWO PAGES- since we started the angle
study page! Put the segment measure theorems on the back of this
page!
Section #1: Vocabulary (words and/or diagrams)
 Diameter
Radius
Chord
 Tangent
Secant
 Central angle Inscribed angle
 Minor arc
Major arc
Semicircle
 Intercepted arc
 Sector
 Circumference
 Common tangent
o Internal
o external
Section #2: Formulas/Equations/Theorems
 Area of a circle formula
 Circumference formula(s)
 Make sure to include all the angle theorems: central, inscribed, angles
formed by intersecting chords, tangent-chord angle, angle formed
tangents or secants.
 Segment measure theorems: intersecting chords, 2 tangents, 2 secants,
and tangent and secant. (Put this on the back of your angle study sheet
we did in class!!!)
 Tangent-radius theorem
 Chord theorems (lesson 9-2)
 Inscribed polygon theorem
 Write out any circle proof theorems that might be helpful for proofs!
Section #3: Key methods and concepts (write out the process and/or a solved
example)
 Explain the difference between arc length and arc measure.
 How do you calculate arc length given a central angle and radius of a
circle?
 How do you calculate area of a sector given a central angle and radius of
a circle?
Accelerated only: Find the area of the segment in terms of
pi if the radius of the circle is 12 cm and   120o .
