The sum of three consecutive integers is 162. Find the middle
number.

Solution:
L: Let x = one number, and x+1 = next number, and x + 2 = 3rd
number.
E: x + (x+1) +(x+2) = 162
S: 3x + 3=162
3x = 159
X = 53
….. this implies that the three numbers are 53, 54, 55
A: “the middle number is 54”
*************************************************
If it says ‘even’ then use: “Let x = 1st even number, x+2 = 2nd
even number, x+4 = 3rd even number, etc.
If it says “odd’ then use: “Let x = 1st odd number, x+2 = 2nd
odd number, x+4 = 3rd odd number, etc.
Why are these the same? How can this be??
