And Those Who Inspired
The Scenario: “During the 18th century, England transformed from an
agricultural society into an industrial superpower. Other European nations and
the United States soon followed suit, but England was the first to experience the
full force of the Industrial Revolution. There are several reasons for this: England had plenty of coal to fuel
machines; the agricultural revolution had increased production and displaced farmers, who found work in
manufacturing; England's sizable overseas empire supplied it with raw materials and a market for its products;
and the English government believed capitalism and trade were a worthy pursuit long before other European
nations did.”
The Task: You will be researching the facts and circumstance concerning one of the busiest (and most
important in terms of technological advancement) times in the recent history of the Western Hemisphere.
What to Include: You will be responsible for researching and finding information on: 1) The Industrial
Revolution in general, as well as 2) One specific person and his/her influence on the revolution (see the list on
back).
Your Finished Product: You will need to complete:
1) One research paper (2 pages minimum, double-spaced, hand written, WITH 4 resources).
2) One poster covering your summary of the industrial revolution, as well as your selected individual.
3) Presenting your poster (with information AND visuals) and information to the class.
