The Course We Followed in the Cell Model Work Grade 6 students were engaged in a modelling task about plant and animal cells in the Science and Technology lesson. They followed the steps below: 1. They gathered information about plant and animal cells and shared this information in the Science and Technology lesson. 2. They built models of the cell and cell organelles using simple materials found in their homes, like buttons, string, pasta, chickpea and bean seeds, cake jelly (representing the cytoplasm), coloured paper, boxes, and plastic containers. 3. Students brought their cell model to class. They placed their models on the desks and informed their classmates about their models. 4. Students assessed the models of their peers using a “cell model assessment form”. 5. A “Cell Model Exhibition” open to the whole school was held on a pre-determined date (12.11.2010) with the participation of all Grade 6 students.
