Monotheism in
Asia
Short abstract
The aim of this interdisciplinary conference is to present recent research on
monotheism in Asia, and discuss relevant educational activities. The conference will
focus on Continuity and Change of Monotheism in Asia with a special emphasis on
Japan.
The South and East Asia Studies Department at Bar Ilan University, Israel, and
the Department of Religious Studies at The University of Tokyo propose to hold a
two-day international conference that will facilitate inter-cultural dialogue and
understanding between Judaic, Islamic, Christian, Buddhist and Confucian traditions.
The Conference is sponsored by the generous support of the
Dr. Naim Dangoor Program for Universal Monotheism
Papers are invited on the following sub-themes:
• Monotheistic characteristics of Asian religious traditions including Buddhism, and
New Religions.
• Scripture and Hermeneutics: Oral traditions of the Non-Christian religions
including Buddhism, Judaism, and Islam and the impacts of the modern Western
scholarship.
• Religious commandments and comparative study between Judaism, Islam,
Buddhism, Confucianism and Shintoism.
• Asian traditions of polytheistic cultures and the monotheistic tradition.
• Religion and the mind from a comparative perspective – Monotheism and Asian
traditions.
• Religion and memory – a comparative view of monotheistic and polytheistic
religions.

culture.
• Jewish studies in Japan.
• Monotheistic religions and identities in China.
There are no Registration Fees.
Lodging shall not be provided.
