Laterally the tip of each lesser wing reaches and fuses with the upturned edge of the
corresponding greater wing.

This closes the lateral end of the superior orbital fissure,

passing between the middle cranial fossa and the orbit.

The sharp posterior margin of the lesser wing formed the anterior border of the middle
cranial fossa.

Anteriorly, the optic canal transmits to the orbit:
1) The optic nerve.
2) Ophthalmic artery (a branch of the internal carotid artery).
The superior orbital fissure
 It is a slit like opining between the lesser and greater wing.
 Transmit:
1) The lacrimal, frontal, trochlear, oculomotor, nasociliary and abducent nerves.
2) The superior ophthalmic vein.
