Specificities of energy know how
1. The material infrastructure of the building
and appliances.
2. Existing ways of doing things within the
household.
3. The level of existing know-how in the
household.
Three forms of energy know how
1. Ideas
You could investigate which of your windows is draughty and
have a go at insulating them.
2. Skills
You can investigate which windows are draughty using a joss
stick and you insulate the windows like this.
3. Materials
You have [this] kind of window, so you need [this] kind of
insulating material and you can get it here.
Enhancing in-home
energy advice
1. Active demonstration and
guidance during the visit.
2. Short list of appropriate
recommended actions (not
comprehensive report).
3. Thermal imaging during visit and
alongside the recommended
actions.
4. Follow-up advice.
5. Separation of the home visit from
commercial interests.
6. Style, training
I hear and I forget
I see and I remember
I do and I understand
