NORTHERN HUMANISTS AND THE CHURCH
 Northern
Humanists were scholars who had
travelled to Italy to study humanist ways and
greek and latin languages.

new methods for analyzing text (Greek/Roman
logic)

of old texts led to questioning of
translations and validity of sources.
ERASMUS, THE BIBLE AND CONTROVERSY
 Dutch
Renaissance humanist, Catholic
priest, social critic, teacher, and
theologian.
 After
lengthy study, he took issue with
the Latin Vulgate Bible, which he felt
contained translation errors from the
Greek version.
