Medicines can be helpful… when used properly Prevent sickness Help to heal the body Help stop pain Help us feel better All medicines can be dangerous if not used properly Prescribed for someone else or a different condition Taking too much or too little Taken for too short or too long a time period Too old or out of date Used with another medicine without talking to a doctor first Taken in the wrong way Exposed to too much heat or cold Other warnings about medicines some people may be allergic to certain types of medicines many medicines have side-effects making giving you feel sleepy you a dry mouth upsetting etc your stomach Addiction Addiction means that a person’s body has become dependent on a substance and the body cannot work comfortably without that substance. If the person stops using the substance, there will be physical and mental effects which are often unpleasant. This is called withdrawal and will affect the person’s mind, body and emotions.
