11-2: Areas of Parallelograms, Triangles, and Rhombuses
11-2 Warm Up
Yesterday, we learned that the area of a rectangle is given by the
formula: 𝐴 = 𝑏 ∙ ℎ. Show why the area of a parallelogram must
be given by the same formula. (Hint: can you rearrange the
parallelogram below into a rectangle?)
11-1 Homework Questions?
11-2 Objectives
1. State and apply the formulas for areas of parallelograms,
triangles, and rhombuses (rhombi).
Thm 11-2: Area of a Parallelogram
Ex) Find the area:
Find the areas of the parallelograms:
What happens if we cut a parallelogram in
half? (Thm. 11-3)
Find the area of an equilateral triangle
whose perimeter is 18 cm.
Find the area of ΔACK
Thm. 11-4: Area of a rhombus
Find the area of a rhombus with sides of length 25 in. and one
diagonal of length 14 in.
The area of a rhombus is 96 in2, and the length of one
diagonal is 4 in. more than the length of the other diagonal.
What are the diagonal lengths?
